Ethan and Me

Image
I like these pictures of Ethan and me. I was sitting at the top of the stairs and asked Ethan to sit with me. I'm normally not a selfie picture taker. I usually have a hard time taking selfies because I never know where to look. My hubby and I laugh so much when taking selfies because we look so funny and we just look goofy. This time I kinda like them. These are unfiltered photos. It's the real us. I like the one below because it captures us just having fun. I don't really like the way I came out but I like the little memory that is forever captured in a photo.

Week 1 of Summer School using the Thinking Tree (2017)

Image
Summer time means we have more visitors and that makes it a bit hard to get school done. We did have some visitors but were able to get some fun schooling done, yay! One thing I am doing this summer is reading a lot more to the kids. With my two youngest I let this go way too much. Some of our summer read alouds: Pink & Say, a really good book about how these two became friends. This is during the Civil War. Winter Danger about an 11-year-old boy who lives in the woods with his dad but longs for a real home. Words West , when pioneers hit the road in their cover wagons between 1830-1870. These are great books that show children the same age as my kids and the hardships they endured. I'm thankful we are all safe in a lovely house with many freedoms, but at times I think our kids have it pretty easy and need to be reminded that it wasn't always this way nor is it for some kids living today.     We used the Reading Time page of our journals to write about what we read. ...

Ethan's Summer Learning Using The Thinking Tree (2017)

Image
I'm challenging myself to have some summer learning fun with my kiddos for six weeks! Basically I want to make sure Ethan completes at least a few pages from two journals a day and two pages from Dyslexia Games Series C . One day it could be a few pages from his Learning Guide & Literature & Poetry . Another day from the Reading Time & Secret Diary . Eventually I'd like to have him writing in the Secret Diary daily but for now, a few pages a week will do. I'm going to do most of the reading during read aloud time and once done we both will pull out our journals (with him, either the Learning Guide or Reading Time) and have fun filling out the page or pages. It would be great if he does Math Genius daily but we'll shoot for two times a week. I want him to continue with his regular math four times a week.

I miss Ethan. He left to spend the summer in California. In the picture below he's helping me put some oils on the guineas, they have lice. My boys the day they left (Ethan and Brent).

The Three Little Piggies

Image
These three Guinea pigs belong to Brent, Annette, and Caleb. Annette and Caleb are away visiting their Auntie R out of state. Brent is home but guess who is taking care of the guinea pigs though? Ethan. He's been making sure they have Timothy Hay, food, water, and that they they have a clean home. Ethan was cleaning their cage and put the guinea pigs in the laundry basket. Ethan has done a great job too, especially since they aren't even his little gals.
